Oppression takes many forms, including those subtle forms that are half-hidden in our language and habits of thought. So argues the feminist author and activist Marilyn Frye (1941–), who until her recent retirement taught philosophy at Michigan State University. Frye is the author of several books, including The Politics of Reality, from which the following essay is taken, and other essays in feminism and philosophy.
