ABSTRACT

One of the best-known libertarian or neoclassical liberal writers, Murray Rothbard (1926–1995) was an American economist who taught at New York Polytechnic Institute and at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Rothbard believed not that government should be kept small but that it should be abolished altogether. Rothbard is thus a libertarian anarchist who contends, in the following excerpt from his For a New Liberty, that government—far from being a “necessary evil”—is an entirely un necessary evil.
