ABSTRACT
Culture demarcates the shared norms and values of a group of individuals that distinguishes them from other communities. This chapter investigates how culture influences various psychosocial domains such as attention and memory, perception and prediction, temporal focus, and goal regulation. Furthermore, the current chapter aims to extend this existing body of literature by examining its potential impact within a military context. Specifically, this chapter discusses how the ubiquities observed across distinct cultures impact military units in terms of what they focus their attention on, how they perceive and navigate around challenging situations, and how these unique motives may be used to enhance overall military prowess and performance. Lastly, this chapter considers how cultural variability influences conflict and resolution when two distinct cultures clash in international military operations. Consideration and implementation of this knowledge may aid in enhancing international negotiations and eradicating some of the most important issues in a world rife with global conflict.
