A neurobiological approach, as it pertains to psychology and behavior, is a basic physiologically based understanding of the chemical and electrical dynamics brought upon by genetic underpinnings or environmental conditions. This approach to understanding military-related psychological morbidities like combat stress (most importantly post-traumatic stress disorder) or substance abuse would be helpful in gaining insight into the developmental model. Studying military-related severe mental health issues like suicide, traumatic brain injuries or sleeping disorders from a neurobiological perspective would help us to understand the related psychopathology from etiology to complete clinical expression and design better prevention-based treatment models.
