ABSTRACT
The electricity supply industry in England and Wales hopes, in the mid-1990s, to embark upon a new programme of nuclear power station construction. This chapter sets out to analyse at the international level some of the main issues which this programme will raise. The industry’s own perspective of total systems cost is adopted, and this shows the range and complexity of locational choice. However, very considerable uncertainty exists in the economic, social and political environment within which the industry operates and future locational choice is far from clear cut.
