ABSTRACT

Elena Garro was born in Puebla, Mexico, in 1920. She studied at the National Autonomous University in Mexico, was active in the university theater, and also worked as a journalist. Beginning her literary career as a playwright with three one-act plays, Un hogar sólido (1958), she began publishing fiction in 1963 with her novel Los recuerdos del porvenir. She has written several volumes of fiction— La semana de colores (1964), Andamos huyendo Lola (1980), Reencuentro de personajes (1982), and La casa junto al río (1983)—and a disguised autobiography, Testimonios sobre Mariana (1981).
