ABSTRACT
This chapter gives the student of police psychology, law and criminal justice/criminology an outline of service, assistance and intervention as to how to deal with the mentally ill person on the street. The tenured officer, scholar of mental health and illness, clinician in practice and legal expert will not lack insights that may be missed in the political and partisan coverage of the issue of police dealing with the mentally ill person on the street and what that really means.
