ABSTRACT

Competent and knowledgeable clinical intervention in response to a law enforcement-related critical incident, especially an Officer Involved Shooting (OIS), is vital in the maintenance and longevity of an officer’s career as well as the overall wellness of a public safety organization. While there may be a variety of ways to conduct psycho-educational debriefings following these events, there are common knowledge points that are important in helping peace officers understand, process and psychologically move through these events.
