ABSTRACT

You receive a referral to see an officer who is the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation, disciplinary proceeding, administrative action, or legal charge. The referral may come from the officer’s law enforcement agency or from the officer himself. Or the officer may be dragged in by a family member, sent to you following a suicidal gesture, or referred by his lawyer. Finally, you may have been treating this officer in the past or currently, and this new charge is a sudden, unexpected stressor.
