ABSTRACT
Leadership is a word that seemingly needs no definition but is generally misunderstood or misused as a concept. Confusion is common between the functions of leadership and those of management. There may be two sides of the same coin, but the challenge is distinguishing one side from the other. This vagueness is no less common in the context of policing. Many attempts have been made to clarify the issue.
