ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of Islamic finance in Pakistan. This chapter is divided into five subsections. Section 1 gives a brief overview of Islamic banking which enjoys a central place in the umbrella of Islamic financial services globally as well as in Pakistan. Section 2 discusses the progress and performance of Islamic capital markets in Pakistan, especially Halal stocks and Sukuk. Section 3 reviews the dynamics of Islamic asset management sector in Pakistan. Section 4 explores the footprint of Islamic microfinance sector, and Section 5 gives an account of the contribution of third sector social finance institutions like Zakāt and Waqf in Pakistan.
