ABSTRACT

All the contexts within which I have worked as a socially engaged artist and educator (including UK care homes, Slovenian community centres, Krishnamurti outreach programmes, Ghanaian high schools and refugee camps in Europe) there have been structural, political and emancipatory tensions between the institution and the individual. Artist teachers are expertly placed to help identify and question whether and in what manner the structures that shape experiences and opportunities for young people can be reconfigured.
