ABSTRACT
I want to discuss my experience of working with moving image and sculpture in a variety of educational contexts. These experiences are particularly pertinent to the readership of this book because both practices tend to be neglected in schools. Yet both are accessible and attractive to young people, engaging them with haptic and playful approaches to object making, moving image and performance practices; approaches which can be used by the artist, student and teacher in the service of exploration and discovery within an open yet carefully structured environment. Although my recent practice as an artist is largely with film, when I extend this practice through participatory workshops in universities, galleries and schools, quite often video and smart phones are the preferred tools.
