Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Gómez-Pompa, with great knowledge and experience, have covered the vast and complex topic of the tropical rain-forest flora. I shall deal almost exclusively with the characteristics, values, problems, status, and potentials of the animal wildlife of the Venezuelan rain forest. These features of wildlife are common to all tropical countries with rain forests. The scarcity of scientific knowledge on this subject is reflected in the brief and sparse bibliography. For this reason, I shall present a general view, using the case of Venezuela, with which I have had firsthand experience.
