ABSTRACT
The industrialized world is beginning to make the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. That this transition would someday have to occur has long been known to society's sensitive observers. Those who witnessed the decimation of woodlands, or the exhaustion of coal mines, or the depletion of oil reserves dreamt about the possibility of harnessing sun, wind, and tide.
