ABSTRACT
Our objective at the outset was to help provide guidelines, or direction, for wilderness management in a way that would prove acceptable and workable rather than simply to conduct a workshop as a beginning and end in itself. This meant the establishment of a continuing process of involvement and participation, with open discussion and divergent views in an atmosphere of mutual respect. All our efforts, before, during and since the conference have been pointed toward that goal.
