ABSTRACT

Production of fish through a variety of aquaculture techniques could be used to maintain and increase Egypt’s production of fish for domestic consumption and export. However, a number of legal, economic, and social problems are associated with aqua-culture development; some of these are discussed here, along with technical problems in development and maintenance of the physical system. Plans for aquaculture development in Egypt must consider not only these problems, but also current and projected demand for fish and present and future harvest levels from capture fisheries.
