ABSTRACT
I was aware that A Faustian Bargain would generate controversy. Anticipating debate on substantive issues and contending interpretations among the readership, I wanted to solicit comments from someone who I knew would hold a different perspective. I invited Dr. Robert Pastor to comment because I respect his scholarly work and because he played an important role in the international observer apparatus to the Nicaraguan elections. I am grateful to Pastor for having taken the time to write the preceding afterword.
