ABSTRACT
Coming from Augsburg means coming from one of the world's money centers. I know you expect me to share with you some of the experiences in international banking made in that city. In fact, lending money to foreign sovereigns was involved to a considerable extent when the Free Imperial City of Augsburg became the world's capital of international banking at the beginning of the sixteenth century. And it was lending to foreign sovereigns to which Augsburg owed its decline as well. What had happened during that period which lasted barely half a century?
