ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Darcy, Kelsey, and Shawna describe and discuss their nature inquiry and study at their preschool, which is located in the Presidio National Park in San Francisco. The authors emphasize the value of melding the school’s core teaching and learning principles with nature education and inquiry, and the school’s devotion to supporting children’s efforts to take care for the surrounding flora, fauna, and animals. In this chapter, the authors provide background on the school’s nature education and inquiry philosophy, and tell two stories of how children and teachers co-construct nature inquiry in their local natural environment.
