In this chapter, Mabel Young describes the value of nature walks that she initiated with her young toddlers who attend a public preschool located in an urban national park. The children explore and examine small animals and plant life, and make repeated examinations of local places to see changes and patterns over time. Mabel bases her nature teaching on her personal commitment to nature engagement and to her school’s Reggio Emilia-inspired approach to extended projects. Mabel’s use of selected inquiry tools heightens her awareness of the capabilities of toddlers for nature learning.
