At least 16 separate political units in the Caribbean region and its peripheral areas participate In varying measure in the Commonwealth Caribbean regional movement, which is the current edition of the recurring historical theme of the attempt to impose the logic of centralisation on the reality of fragmentation in the British and post-British Caribbean. 1
