ABSTRACT

Guthrie’s Zone S languages are essentially those of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho. To these we have added Lozi (K21), a Sotho-based language of Zambia and Namibia. For each language, or language cluster, we include its major geographical situation and an approximate number of speakers (based on the latest census figures, and those in Ethnologue).
