ABSTRACT

Weisskopf (1950) originally developed the TI as a general measure of the amount of projection present in a TAT protocol. Her goal was to find a way to distinguish projected material from descriptive material and to quantify projection. Such an index, in her view, would accomplish two things. First, it would provide an indication of the

clinically useful material in a protocol. Second, it would suggest which cards in the TAT were more apt to elicit projection. The first indicator is essentially an individual difference variable, and the second is a variable that could be clinically manipulated by selecting cards to facilitate maximum production of projective material with psychodiagnostic value.
