ABSTRACT

A. A. Akom examines the relationship between critical race theory and youth participatory action research. Akom’s scholarship focuses on how youth and adults struggle to overcome racialized social practices as they structure local meanings of culture, class, privilege, and power in everyday life. He is an Assistant Professor of Urban Sociology and Africana Studies and Codirector of Educational Equity at the Cesar Chavez Institute at San Francisco State University.
