ABSTRACT
I am often asked to speak at various educational institutions during Black History Month, which comes each February. A few years ago, I made a decision to reject those invitations because too many commemorations had become desiccated rituals. I since have changed my mind. Even rituals are better than nothing. Most Americans know next to nothing about the context of our current racial dilemma.
