ABSTRACT
Visual techniques offer much to the study of international migration. Benefits include collecting information about topics of study, generating rapport and easing communication with respondents, comparing groups, refining theoretical analysis, sharing findings, and teaching about results. This chapter offers basic guidelines to assist those studying migration with the use of visual techniques. While much of the discussion focuses on visual sociology, the article also refers to other academic disciplines and approaches to visual representation.
