ABSTRACT
Time is a multi-dimensional concept. It can be tracked from the point of view of individuals, who become older as the calendar pages flip over and who experience noteworthy events during a certain historical time period and at a certain point in their life cycle. Time can also be tracked through the succession of generations. Unfortunately, defining, operationalizing, and analyzing how these dimensions of time are implicated in how migrants and their descendants fare in a destination society is difficult for numerous reasons. In this chapter, we outline some of the complexities and difficulties involved in trying to investigate the various dimensions of time in migrants’ lives and present some strategies for dealing with them.
