ABSTRACT
Institutional analysis has blossomed over the past two decades, becoming one of the preferred perspectives for the study of Latin American politics. The approach is predicated on the idea that institutions shape political behavior and, by extension, policy outcomes. This claim opens three questions: What is a political institution? How are political institutions able to shape policy outcomes? And to what extent is this approach able to illuminate the dynamics of Latin American politics?
