ABSTRACT
New Zealand, or Aotearoa to use its original Māori name, is a small country in the South Pacifi c with a population of 4.2 million (similar to that of the state of Kentucky) and with a land mass similar to that of Colorado. It is primarily an urbanized society with approximately one third of the population residing in Auckland City. The country prides itself as an innovator in social development, being the fi rst country to grant women the vote and the fi rst to develop a comprehensive social welfare system in the 1930s.
