ABSTRACT
This chapter begins by distinguishing major approaches to the current spread of English and discusses how the approach taken in this chapter differs. The chapter then summarizes existing research on various aspects of English language teaching (ELT) including:
• imagined communities and ELT; • English learning and identity; and • inequality of access in English language learning.
