ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of how our understanding of human rights has evolved to inform our understanding of reproductive health and rights, and how this has in turn changed humanitarian practice to better fulfil those rights. It offers a definition of commonly used terms, an historical perspective on selected international legal instruments, a review of key reproductive rights, a glimpse at reproductive health for persons affected by man-made and natural disasters, and a listing of essential reproductive health services.1
