ABSTRACT

Until now German women’s and gender studies has successfully held its ground in the midst of ongoing restructuring and reorientation at German universities. Potentials and pitfalls of the current university formation can be characterised as follows:

1) reorganisation of the courses of studies in the context of the Bologna Process

2) focus on excellent research and international competitiveness 3) professionalisation and promotion of equal opportunity politics,

powerfully strengthened by EU equal opportunities legislation 4) a steadily growing split between equal-opportunities politics and

women’s and gender studies.
