ABSTRACT
This article has three sections: the fi rst section distinguishes ‘Hindu’ economics from ‘Hindutva’ economics; the second analyses Hindutva’s discourse on development by critically refl ecting upon its origins and evolution, ideological and programmatic contents, coherence and contradictions; and the third section attempts to understand how Hindutva’s economic nationalism, unlike the political, failed to make its distinct mark because of the lack of clarity and conviction.
