ABSTRACT

As explained by the editors, the purpose of this book is to highlight the key educational conditions of specifi c minority populations in specifi c regions of Asia. The authors focus on providing a contextualized understanding of the educational issues of minority students. The major themes for discussion include government policies on the education of minority students in terms of retaining their native language, learning of new languages, cultural adaptation, parental involvement, and preparation for higher education, among other concerns. The disparity between government policies and the experiences of students in schools and educational outcomes is described, based on the research conducted by the authors.
