ABSTRACT

The utilization of psychological services by Arab Americans is a growing area of interest and concern (Martin, 2014; Rothermel, 2009) given the reported increase in immigration and acculturation stress that Arab Americans have been facing, particularly since 9/11 (Awad, 2010; Awad, Martinez, & Amer, 2013). Challenges have impacted Arab Americans’ mental health and adaptation to American society, for both new immigrants and those born in the U.S. These include the struggle with value differences, social stigma, and the negative media representation of Arabs, as well as experiences of racism, discrimination, and war trauma (Abi-Hashem, 2008, 2011; Awad & Hall-Clark, 2009; Erickson & Al-Timimi, 2001; Hijazi et al., 2014; Ibish, 2003; Nobles & Sciarra, 2000; Pollara & Meleis, 1995).
