ABSTRACT

Unheard of in the 1980s, the awarding of degrees in Event Management, and the teaching of event-specific courses within tourism, leisure, sports, hospitality and other fields, have rapidly become a global phenomenon. Barron and Leask (2012) called the growth ‘unprecedented’ but cautioned that in some countries it is resulting in an over-supply of programmes and graduates, a situation that will surely be followed by rationalization.
