ABSTRACT
When we are told that legendary screen lover Errol Flynn was bisexual and that he spent "an enjoyable night" with the eighteen-year-old Truman Capote, we tend to shrug it off as Hollywood excess. Capote himself is said to have remarked to Marilyn Monroe, when asked whether he had a good time, "If it hadn't been Errol Flynn, I wouldn't even have remembered it."3 Flynn, Dietrich, Garland, Tyrone Power, Cary Grant, James Dean; the bisexuals of the Golden Age of Hollywood were as numerous and as omnivorous as the rock-and-pop bisexuals of Glitter and the Sexual Revolution—Bowie, Jagger, Joplin, Joan Baez, Elton John—or the postmodern bisexuals of MTV and David Letterman—Madonna and Sandra Bernhard.
