ABSTRACT

I entered Cornell in 1984 as a Human Development and Family Studies major, but I began to doubt that choice as my first semester drew to a close. The coursework was less than inspiring to me despite being taught by solid professors. Instead, my favorite class was a design course that tapped into the artistic interests I pursued in high school. Midway through freshman year, I was on the verge of following the encouragement of my design professor, switching majors, and considering a career in some type of design.
