Political Parties and Ideology: Interest Groups in Context

Political science has long treated political parties and interest groups as related subjects. They share an offi cial section of the American Political Science Association dedicated to their study, and many schools offer courses that integrate them. But scholars often treat them independently. They are both examples of “political organizations,” but they are different kinds of organizations, and with important exceptions, they are often studied independently.
