ABSTRACT
While Henry Adams’ claim about politics and facts runs counter to what many of us might hope would inform political decisions, too often we witness decisions being made either in the absence of evidence or contrary to the evidence. A Vice President of Research at a Canadian university was quoted as commenting, “The vast majority of policy in this country right now has been made for political reasons, not based on scientific evidence” (Peters, 2012, p. 19).
