ABSTRACT

Anselm Strauss has been dead for over a decade. The world of qualitative research has proliferated since Dr. Strauss’ death and the trend has been to replace older methods with either newer qualitative or with mixed qualitative/quantitative methods. While it is natural to want to be on the latest methodological bandwagon, there is something to be said for traditional methods. The aim of this chapter is to demonstrate that Dr. Strauss’ approach to generating grounded theory is not a relic from the past but still a vibrant method that transcends time and is capable of generating relevant nursing knowledge.
