ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on describing how qualitative methods have been used in nursing research in order to develop knowledge about people’s experiences of living with chronic pain syndrome. The qualitative methods that are presented for describing and understanding the needs of people living with a chronic pain condition are qualitative content analysis and phenomenological hermeneutic interpretation. During the past decade, my research has mainly focused on the experience of living with chronic illness. The research data have first and foremost been obtained from personal narrative interviews, as is the research presented in this chapter.
