ABSTRACT

The Middle East is considered the cradle of civilizations and religions considering many civilizations existed in this region and the three major religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) started here. The Middle East evolved to become the energy center of the world with 56 per cent of the world’s oil reserves (Swindell 2013a) and 65 per cent of the world’s gas reserves (Swindell 2013b). Recently, there have been a number of political and societal uprisings which are transforming the political, societal, financial, educational, and cultural future of several countries of the region such as Egypt, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen to name a few (Dalacoura 2012). These transformations provide HRD practitioners and scholars alike the opportunity to learn and be actively involved in a transformative environment where both traditional HRD functions and emerging National HRD frameworks may be utilized to potentially benefit this evolving region.
