ABSTRACT
Following from the above, we consider the notion Global Ecosystem to be synonymous with ‘environment’. This system view has developed over the last decades; it sees the Global Ecosystem/the environment as a worldwide, continuously functioning biophysical system, composed of the four spheres and organized in countless local-and regional-scale ecosystems that are all functioning, interacting and contributing to the functioning of the whole. The Global Ecosystem possesses all ecosystem traits, including the running of resilient ecosystem processes and delivery of ecosystem services, and the existence of feedback loops and thresholds. All this happens on different scales, from micro to macro, from local to regional and from continental to global.
