ABSTRACT
A key to thinking about feminism in the post-Thatcher period, and feminism as we move towards the end of the century, is the notion of ambiguity, of things which are both positive and negative - of moving backwards and forwards. I want that notion to infuse what I am saying here, partly because it helps counteract the hopelessness of political pessimism.
