ABSTRACT

Short trousers, football shoes, ski gloves, rugby shirts, caps, shin guards, wrestling costumes, fencing pants, swimsuits: numerous kinds of sportswear are frequently exposed in sport museums. Together with sport equipment, symbols (trophies, medals, cups, etc.) and photos, they even constitute one of the largest sporting parts of the artefacts presented to the public and more generally belong ‘to the vast material world of sport’.1
