ABSTRACT

The Study Circle is a structured, yet informal, adult educational format that has been used by local groups for over 100 years. Originally, participants met in small groups for a series of sessions to study such subjects as history, art, languages, literature and current political issues. I discovered the Study Circle’s power in helping people deal with others who have experienced grief and trauma. When used in the workplace, a grief-focused Study Circle enables managers and co-workers to prepare each other to interact helpfully with fellow employees who are returning to work after having experienced a signifi cant loss in their lives.
