ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, reference was made to the ecological legacy of Bronfenbrenner (1979) and his portrayal of the individual being wrapped in interacting layers of contextual circles. In this final section the focus is on further layers that are crucial elements in the child’s ecosystem. These are the family (whose help makes life so much easier for the teacher), and multi-agency support services (likewise so important to school-based staff). The section ends with consideration given to the key issue of supporting the well-being and developing the skills of the teachers and teaching assistants who work with the child with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
