ABSTRACT
Archaeology is no longer what it once was. Both Rathje and Shanks have played tremendous roles in the transformation of the definition, the aims, the scope of the discipline. This conversation between the editors provides summary statements about the nature of contemporary archaeology as well as reflections on the unique career paths of both archaeologists.
